An Ode to the Working Mother
Here’s to any working mom who has forgotten spirit day at
their kids school and mistakenly sent them to school wearing their uniform. Or
any working mom who has felt absolutely guilt over not being able to take time
off from work to chaperon their kids field trips— this ode is for you.
Here’s to any working mom who has had to make trips to
Target on her lunch break to pick up school snacks, last minute
Christmas/Birthday/Hanukkah/Friend’s Birthday gifts. Here’s to that same mom
who had to grab a mediocre salad from the food section of Target only to return
to her desk to eat and finish running spreadsheets and reports.
Here’s to any working mom who works a 10 hour work shift,
who then has a 2 hour commute and still has to go home to cook dinner, help
with homework, straighten up the house, bathe the kids, tuck them into bed,
stop them from fighting, sing them a song and read them a bedtime story. Or
two, or three.
Here’s to any working mom who has gotten up at 3am to remove
wet clothes out of the washer. Or who have had to wake up 4 times a night to
nurse. 8 times a night to clean and change wet sheets. Or who have had to prove
to a 3 year old at 2am that there is in fact not a monster in the closet.
Here’s to any working mom who has had to leave work to pick
up a sick kid from school. Or even if after picking up the sick kid, somehow
the kid miraculously feels better once you get them home.
Here’s to any working mom who gives up work happy hour to
spend time with her children at home
Here’s to any working mom who eats breakfast out of a file
cabinet, and fills her stomach with coffee throughout the day.
Please share this post with other working moms.
